Tonight's adventure into "As the World Turns" was held in the workshop of Alan Tasoff. Other than defective chairs, it is a shop full of magic, wonder, walnut, and more equipment than Home Depot. Our thanks for allowing us into his den of creativity.

Show and tell was once again a showcase of incredible ingenuity and talent. Ron has discovered the world of turning Corian (a polyurethane type of material). The small vases look as if they are made of stone or marble, beautiful work by our fearless leader. Alan showed some of his gadgets he has made for cutting angles and other specific jobs. Kathy showed a beautiful Lace Bobbin. Bob Nickey showed many coasters and small bowls and Doug had a group of inter-locking bowls.

Doug set up the lathe to demonstrate coring, making several bowls from one blank using the McNaughton system. Things were going well until the tenon on the blank broke off during the demo. We did get the idea but Doug was forced to end early without getting through a single bowl blank. It was a good try but it just goes to show, you never know what can happen while turning; so pay attention and take nothing for granted.

Safety was again a topic, different types of shields were on hand and the costs of each. No matter what type of shield is preferred, it does no good if its hanging on a hook while you are turning.

Alan is considering holding more meetings at his shop, he also hopes to serve more snacks he will make with his own hands just for us. It's just the kind of guy he is.

Our exciting raffle raised an additional $53.00 bringing our bank balance to $507.45 Just remember our Insurance premium is close to $600.00 per year. The mishap of losing the bowl blank from the lathe during the demonstration illustrates why we need our Insurance.

Next month Joe Jones will be demonstrating his method of creating a segmented bowl. He will make use of a standard Chop Saw to cut segments and a single pc. of sand paper to flatten the rings. Notice at no time will his fingers leave his hands. This should be a truly interesting demonstration.

Please remember to bring your latest "Show & Tell to the next meeting at the Library as well some "Good Stuff" for the Raffle.

And last but not least are a few wise words from our own sage Ron Befferman concerning accidents around the shop. "Most accidents can be avoided if more care, attention, and thought are given before doing any actions". Socrates would be proud of such words.......
