Cape Atlantic Woodturners Newsletter
Volume #5, Issue #5
Subject: Club Minutes 5/19/2015
This month's meeting of the Cape Atlantic Woodturners of the AAW was of gigantic proportion. A full house nearly had the fire department on alert, many guests of other clubs as well as visitors attended to watch David Ellsworth demonstrate why he is one of the premier woodturners in the country. David took his time to explain how and why he uses some of his techniques and styles, a lot of information in just two hours. By the time he was done there were plenty of shavings for everyone to take home and two beautiful pieces that seemed so effortless to create. It isn't just about throwing a piece of wood on a chuck and turning, it is about evaluating the wood and extracting the best features from it. He has a mantra that is the 2015 phrase for David, "Product is ego, process is soul". Now put that in your pipe and smoke it for a while.
One of the pieces will be auctioned off online, next month the auction will end during the meeting so everyone will have an opportunity to bid during the month or at the meeting.
The raffle was executed by Jackie Tassoff, she did a great job of drumming up lots of business. Her husband Alan was in charge of keeping count of the cookies that Yvonne Bruman brought along with other goodies to snack on. It was last minute but Yvonne really put out quite a spread that fed the whole crowd. Thanks to her and Jackie for helping the men stay organized.
Once again a special thank you to El Presidente Gerald Bruman who organized the event. Where he finds the time to do so much makes one wonder if he sleeps.
The whole evening is now taped by our own techno- marvelo Jeff Schnell, he had two cameras running from different angles, miles of cables and equipment ready to film the entire night of wonderment and awe. Then he had to pack it all up and bring it home. Nice work Jeff, we would be clueless without your knowledge.
It was a great demo, hopefully inspiring people to try new ideas and turn their attention to styles they had never tried before. So now I wish you all a farewell adieu until next month, Thanks again To everyone who put in so much of their time to bring it together.
