Subject: Club Minutes 3/18/2014
This evening's ceremony was standing room only, people from near and far came to pay homage to outgoing president Ron Befferman. President Gerald Bruman opened the meeting with a song and dance number, then got down to business. We are still looking for ideas from club members for a club logo. When presenting this to the club the sound of crickets was almost deafening. Gerald has been working with students in graphic design classes at the school where he teaches, the more ideas the better. And in this case ANY ideas would be better.
Ron was asked to come up in front of the class, he assumed it was about his show and tell project. To his surprise Gerald presented him with a plaque thanking him for being the founder of the club and being its president and glue that has held it together for a decade. Along with that he was presented with a present!!! Ron was genuinely surprised by the attention and when he opened the box holding two large carbide lathe tools he was almost speechless..........almost. Thanks again Ron for all you have done and we hope you will remain part of the nucleus that keeps this engine running smoothly.
Show and tell was full of interesting pieces as usual. Ron started by showing his "bring back" project, he was given a piece of spalted maple approximately 3" square and 24" long. He created a candlestick, now he hands it over to someone else with another chunk of wood so they may add to the piece. Jeff Schnell is this weeks lucky winner, good luck Jeff. Of course Doug James had to show us all up again with a beautiful hollow vase with a dyed exterior then sanded to give incredible highlights. Arthur had fun turning some chess pieces, he is considering making sets for everyone. As busy as Joe Jones is in his daily life he seems to make time for us. Literally. Amazing skills and patience he has to make a working clock, thanks for putting on a good face for us Joe.
Betty Campbell was at the helm to demonstrate some of her techniques and styles of turning small object when given a few blanks. She's a crafty one all right, and very speedy on the lathe. Thanks for all the trouble of bringing your equipment to give us a chance to watch you work, it was very interesting. And that was all the excitement anyone could stand for one evening so our president Bruman brought down the gavel and called it a night, and a good night to all
