Cape Atlantic Woodturners Newsletter
Volume #5, Issue #6
Subject: Club Minutes 6/16/2015
Summer is here, the sawdust and chips are still flying and with it being so hot most of it seems to be sticking to our arms and necks. Our members are looking tanned, toned, and treated from last month's demonstration by David Ellsworth.
President Bruman is asking for suggestions for topics for upcoming meetings. Alan Tassoff would like to bring his new vacuum chuck in and lead a discussion of its uses and how it makes the nearly impossible pieces to hold very simple.
Tom Henry discussed the process of wood hardening, why, when, and how to to do it. It's like having our own little scientist every month, thanks for the info Tom. Now we can safely take soft or "punky" wood and stabilize it to the point it won't blow up while turning it. Members seemed more curious than ever to see how effective this can be on their next adventure in the workshop. In the words of Tom himself, "try it, you'll like it". Just hope Life cereal doesn't hear about that line, don't want Tom going to court for copyright infringement.
Show and tell was the same as always, made me want to go home and sell all my tools. Our members continue to amaze us every month with the quality and skill on the pieces brought in to share. Joe Jones made a miniature three legged tea table just "to see if he could do it." Yes, he can definitely do it.
And so ends another chapter, so keep turning, cutting and creating, next month will surely be another awe inspiring gathering.
