January 2009

Cape Atlantic Woodturners Newsletter

Subject: Club Minutes 1/20/2009

We had a very good turnout for the January meeting. The following members attended: Richard Mason, Guy Buckelew, Tom Henry, Alan Tasoff, Jeff Gerber, Jeff Schnell, Don Matousch, Doug James, Diane Brown, Gerald Bruman, Charles Town, Better Campbell and Peter Kolb.

Peter Kolb gave an excellent presentation on parting tools. He brought in several different parting tools and gave instruction on proper sharpening and use of them. He also talked about the making of a parting tool. My thanks to Peter for giving a detailed presentation.

I wish to thank all the members who participated in Show and Tell. This encourages me when I see that most members are actively turning.

It was decided we would hold a workshop on turning a goblet at the Vo-Tech (pending Tom's getting approval from the school) for our February meeting. Details will follow.

We will hold off on the club challenge until March. Also, Don Matousch recommended spending time on wood identification and that each member should bring in a particular species of wood and identify it to the club. This will also be postponed until March.
